Nava Kiran Rehabilitation Center (NKRC) is first drugs De- addiction
and social reintegration center established in 2002 by the group
of former drugs users. The idea of Nava Kiran was first
conceived and implemented on by
Mr. Bimal Thapa – a counselor
trained in Delhi some 10 yeas ago and recovering drug user
himself. He has an accumulation of 10 year experiences in
detoxification, residential drugs rehabilitation counseling and
day care and after care services. A 7 year experience as a
psychosocial counselor for drugs addicts is another valuable
addition to his repertoire. Mr. Thapa was also actively involved
in “Demand Reduction Program“, a government programme for three
years. During this program he visited different parts of Nepal
to provide orientations to teachers, medical staffs, and
community people. At the same time he had played vital rote to
form and establish the Recovering Nepal. Currently, there are 45
indoor clients under treatment and 50 are in day care. Some are
working at different NGO, INGO like UN, Government offices and
School /Colleges.

Nava Kiran Rehabilitation center is completely run by recovering
drugs users and a part of them are People living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA).
In a span
of 5 years The Rehabilitation center has managed to provide
treatment for more than 600 drugs users. A major part of them
being successfully reintegrated socially and engaged in various
professions. Some of them are actively involved in social work
and are contributing a lot in the HIV/AIDS and Drug abuse
scenario.
